Underwater Minnesota

Minnehaha

The Minnehaha was one of the original streetcar boats.

Built in 1906 by the Twin City Rapid Transit Company, it was constructed in Minneapolis and designed by Roy Moore as a propeller-powered vessel with a hull of  measuring 70 feet in length, 14 feet 10 inches abeam. The vessel had a "torpedo" stem, electric lights, a capacity for 120 passengers, and was painted yellow to match the streetcars.

The Minnehaha was scuttled with the Como and White Bear in 1926 north of Big Island.  In 1980, it was raised from the bottom of the lake and, after a lengthy restoration, sails the summer months once again on Lake Minnetonka.

The Minnehaha provides a chance to study  steamboat architecture of the early 1900’s by touring a fully restored vessel.
